An update on things

I have been a bad bad blogger. Its not that I haven't had anything to say it is just that I have not had any time to say it.

So with April coming to a close I thought I would summaries how it went for me in point form for efficiency sake.

- April week 1:
- Packing up is to move is like going through your life and throwing away what you don't need but keeping more than you should really and then feeling guilt about it. My realization: I was kinda crazy before and I may still be, also I need to throw more shit away.
- Contractors suck.
-Unpacking is much like packing except you throw less shit away and feel even more guilt about it (plus by this time you are sore).

-April week 2:
- I can still throw a kick ass party (with some help).
- Not having finished floors makes cleaning up from said party super easy.
- Contractors suck.
- The place is starting to feel like home.

-April week 3:
- Work is begining to suck i guess the negative to living 2 blocks from where you work is that you are easily available. The plus side is being able to walk to work in the mornings and do errands at lunch where before all I could do was work through my lunch hour.
- Getting stuff through customs sucks.
- Contractors suck donkey balls!
- My family can all at once be amazingly supportive and caring and incredibly overbearing and obnoxious.
- I think when i come out things are going to be ok.
- Microsoft vista is the equivalent to something you would want to scrape off the bottom of your shoe because the smell is offensive.
- Plumbers hold more power than anyone else in a condo.

- April week 4:
- My car is awesome for roadtrips.
- Calgary has an Infinitely more vibrant and beautiful downtown. It is too bad the place has no soul and people down there are assholes.
- The eagle in Calgary is a ton of fun i wish we had one in Edmonton.
- Valet parking is the only way this boy is doing it ever again.
- The only thing better than watching Edmonton win in the playoffs is going down to Calgary and watching them loose.
- Mixed signals from boys who don't know what they want has officially become my biggest turn on apparently, at least given my history with men.
- Contractors suck!!!!
- It is nice getting lunch and 6 pitchers of beer bought for you and the other marketing guy, by software vendors.
- It is not so nice going to work after lunch and 6 pitchers of beer; I spent the rest of my hour and half at work trying not seem drunk or breath on anyone.
- It is possible to be simultaneously drunk and hungover.
- I am not sure whether i am bored or depressed or a little of both.

I am glad April is done it was an ugly month lots of ups and downs surprises and disappointments, heres to may being a simpler month and my floors being done!

And on the 37th day of Aaron's condo renovation there was WATER, EVERYWHERE

I was woken up this morning by my panicked condo board head.

"Aaron do you have water running?"

The second i heard the word water my heart sank. My biggest fear throughout this whole renovation was that something I did would cause the plumbing to leak. This is for a couple of reasons mostly if i was found to be responsible I would have to pay for damages and repairs.

I checked my unit. No water anywhere even on the pipes that we altered. The plumber came and cut open my closet wall and still no water. He then cut open the unit below mine's ceiling. Turns out there was a pinhole leak in the pipe between her roof and my floor.

Thankfully this means that it is officially a condo board problem and not mine.

What a way to start the day.

I am really really looking forward to my trip to calgary!

If its in the news it must be true

I was listening to the Klaxons' new album Myths of the near future. Uber stuck up music critics everywhere are hailing the klaxons as the next big thing to change modern music. I have gotten tired of people saying that about bands (even though in the past I have said that more than once).

Why can't music critics find a better way to describe artists that don't fit the current popular music scene or haven't reached there full potential? In the case of the Klaxons its a little of column A and a little of column B.

The first time I listened to it i hated it. It was brash and loud much like the band's namesake (Klaxon is a trademark for an electromechanical horn or alerting device. thanks wikipedia!). I have listened to it a handful of times and there are definitely some stand out tracks and flashes of brilliance but overall I was not blown away by them. I don't even think any of the tracks will make it onto my new road trip mp3 mix, which is really my ultimate measure for how good an album is.

Maybe I am just in a negative mood as the new Of Montreal (all funk and no soul with gimmicky shrill vocals) and Arcade Fire (just blah) albums are really not half as good as I expected.

I am going to go listen to my recently downloaded discography of the faint now and rock out.

So thats what it feels like to be on the outside looking in.

My parents and aunt and uncle came over yesterday to drop off some furniture and plants. The condo now looks like a jungle.

It was really the first time since i had moved in that they were there for a lengthy period of time. I guess living around them for so long you tend to not notice things so much but when they came over it was like they completely took over the place.

I know everyone thinks there family is crazy so thats a given but I am finding it hard to describe the feeling I had about them. Consuming and abrasive come to mind but they seem far too harsh. Ryan described it as tiring and i think in the end that describes it best. Don't get me wrong I love my family and am very thankful for all the help they have given but man are they tiring.

On Friday Eoin mentioned right away about how much weight i have lost. Now before he mentioned it I didn't think there was that much of a difference. I went and checked and I have offically lost 10 pounds in the last month. Doing the renos has really eaten away at the fat and started to tone me up.

I think my mom is concerned that I am starving or something because she keeps bringing over random food for me.

Well I can't say I am not surprised

Today was my first experience installing Microsoft Vista. I admit i have been putting it off. I just knew vista was going to be a huge mess so im detailing my bias right off the bat.

Our head of sales old HP gigantic archaic laptop finally died last week. To say I am ecstatic to see it go is a large understatement. We were orginally going to replace it with the beautiful and well designed toshiba portage ( I want the new shiny white tablet model so bad i can taste it).

Unfortunatly budgetary constraints and management decisions left us stuck with getting the much cheaper hp pavillion 14.5 inch widescreen with windows vista from futureshop. All i can say is you get what you pay for. I get the laptop running and after about 5 min the fan starts sounding like a cross between a vacuum cleaner and a refrigerator. Hoping this is temporary I slug through with the vista configuration. After about 20 min the system restarts and then sits at a black screen all the while the fan is screaming along.

After the black screen did not go away and the fan didn't quiet down we promptly sent it back to futureshop who replaced it almost no questions asked.

The second laptop is doing much better. I am still not impressed with HP and I don't think I ever will be.

Vista is even more ridiculous. The install takes about 35 min much of which is filled with empty screens giving you no signs of progress or activity. This is supposed to be an improvement? The lack of design intelligence that went into this process is clear from the start. My favorite part is where the screen comes up and tells us how valuable our time is meanwhile we are waiting... and waiting. I wonder if the programmers put that in there just for a chuckle.

I am moving my whole office over to mac the second i get a budget that i can work with. Microsoft for employing such brilliant people you have really missed the boat on vista its the same old bloated program with a prettier wrapping.

Condo Renovation update!! Moving time

It has been 6 days since I posted. I have been too busy these days getting stuff done on the condo. I haven't even had the time to touch myself (or anyone else) inappropriately much less blog.

I don't have my camera at work today so I can't post any new video tours (I'll do those tonight). I moved in yesterday and unpacked a large majority of my room. It is looking pretty awesome.

Hopefully things will be looking hot by the end of the week!

I have no time for such realities

I think i am getting sick. It is so not going to happen.
I refuse.

I went through all my filing cabinets last night (I couldn't sleep). It's amazing how neurotic an through I was in my first two years of University. I took insanely detailed colour coded notes. Now that I am done I managed to throw most of the irrelevant stuff away. I managed to combine 3 filing drawers into 1. It feels good to get rid of crap I don't need. I would rather throw it out then move it at this point.

Streamlining is good. I must fight the urge to become a huge packrat like my parents.

Was at the condo for lunch. There has been no flooring progress. I am going to buy the stuff to do tile today and hopefully we will get going on that by tonight. I intend on being mostly moved in and sleeping in the place by Friday. Yay for artificial deadlines!

Quick update day 18

I have flooring going in as we speak. I am very happy about this.

Day 17 of the Condo Renovation

- Flooring guys are MIA.
- Flooring guys phone appears to be disconnected and not in service.
- My brand new Moen faucet and tap system leaks.
- I have no floors in any of my rooms.
- My windshield wiper broke off last night and I don't have time to get a new one.

- I have a tub that drains.
- While packing i found my glasses that I lost in September after a gong show of a frat party.
- I have a wall up in my bathroom and should be able to start tiling tomorrow.
-The flooring guys left all of there equipment at my place that means they must be coming back...right?

Here is yesterday's video in which my hair looks particularly awful :

Condo renovation day 16

I feel like this place is consuming my life in a way. I wake up go to work and then go to the condo and work. If I am not doing one of those things I am shopping for the condo or talking to people about it. I know i need a day off, but I can't see that happening until either the bathroom or the floors are done. I am moving in this friday come hell or high water (I heard that on a movie once and it sounded cool :P).

It will get done.

I am 80% done packing. It is amazing how most of your stuff can fit into two trucks worth of boxes. Kinda depressing actually.

Here is the video from yesterday:

Condo renovation day 15

I know i am late posting this. Enjoy.
