My Awesome (Ficticious) Band

Because all the cool kids are doing it. I feel like the band could be some super hip bohemian folk group. Or a dorky cool Icelandic trio. Your thoughts?

1 - Go to "wikipedia." Hit “random”
or click
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to "Random quotations"
or click
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album. (make sure you hit the new random quotations button at the bottom)

3 - Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 - Use photoshop or similar to put it all together ( works well, online.

5 - Post it with this text in the "caption" and TAG the friends you want to join in.

Well Greg is moved in.

It took less than 45 min to get all of his stuff in the place and another 20 to get the rest in the storage room. Still it has been a really long day.

We have a spare room filled with boxes.

I am pooped!

Moving time!

So in about 12 hours if everything goes well Greg will be moving fully. He is bringing up a shipping truck with all his big stuff and the rest of his boxes. To top that off our parents are gonna meet each other tomorrow.

Its going to be such a long day but im so glad it is finally here.

I spent my last night living alone hanging out with Jon and Torrie playing Wii Raving Rabids. It was nice mellow night.

I am totally wiped out so I am going to head to bed. Ill have some updates tommorow or sunday on how the move went.

catty quote of the day

"So you couldn't be bothered to find something that coordinated, so you made something that matched."

Awesome bitchy designer chick on generic designer show dissing a couple who had dinning room chairs and living room couches all in the same horrific faux velvet fabric from 1989.

Work it!

The beast! it devours!

Facebook has been all over the blogs the last few days. This post on got me thinking. Jimbo was talking about how facebook is killing traditional blogging.

The more i thought about how facebook has changed what i do and how i exist online the more i realized how it has fundamentally changed how i deal with the people in my day to day life. It hasnt affected my blogging so much as my online chatting. I used to spend a lot of time chatting with my friends everynight. Now its much more sending a message here and there on facebook (and not using its super annoying chat system on facebook either). Instead of giving out my msn account i send people to my facebook.

Now i am sure there is much to be said about this putting further distance between myself and my online contacts but it seems to be working for me.

Blogging is more about spreading news and ideas (and the odd dirty pic). I think it serves a purpose that facebook never can. It is too shallow to really convey anything.

Know you limit

Apparently 4 days straight of rich food and drinks is my upper limit. After a relatively quiet period my ulcer switched to "seriously I am totally fucking irritated and I am going to make you pay for it" mode at about 8 last night. I am doing my best right now to eat super mild healthy things to keep it under control.

It is going to be such a long road to recovery with this damn thing. I know part of it is me handling stress better and I think I am doing a better job of that. One of my big problems was they were asking me to do tasks that we impossible with the equipment I had at work. Now that I have a new Mac Pro my ability to get work done has gone up considerably. I can run three virtual xp systems on this thing and it can still run cs3 better than my old amd. I am loving it!

Looks like it is spinach salad for me for th next few days. :(

Im dreaming of a queer christmas

Ryan and Jim my old roomates are coming up this weekend. We didn't get a chance to hang out during the holidays and so instead we are having Gay christmas this Saturday.

I have even left my christmas tree up much the horror of some of my friends. Tomorrow I am cooking a huge Ukrainian dinner and making turkey for the first time.

In all the hubbub I had kind of forgotten about valentines day. Greg and I had pretty much agreed to save our money this year and not do anything. The brat pulled a sneaky on me however and had a painting our friend Kevin did and that I have been lusting after for 2 years. He is such a sweetheart!

I will probably be blogging about my cooking experience tomorrow. Stay tuned!

juggernaut of tragedy

I got an email from an from a friend in Australia today that kind of shook me up a bit. As many of you know there are some horrific forest fires burning wildly out of control they have wiped out whole towns and have killed hundreds.

I have some personal experience with forest fires. About 5 years ago there was a massive forest fire that swept through north western Alberta. My friends and family were at our cabin looking forward to a boozy relaxing weekend. We had to be evacuated and it looked like we were going to loose our cabin and my grandfather's family home.

A year later we were on evacuation alert at my uncles home in Kelowna. Both times i was amazed and terrified at the incredible speed that these things move at and I will always remember the water bombers swooping overhead as we drove away as fast as we could on the gravel roads.

Nothing I have experienced comes even close to this (sections have been removed for privacy):
god that news traveled far...the stories coming out of there are sooooo sad. the things you hear on the news are nothing in comparison.

....the two towns are now wiped out and the bride-to-be of one of the weddings is dead.

Of a few of the people they know in King Lake (the main town that got wiped out without notice), They were saying that their neighbours bred the miniature horses and when they were driving like hell to escape the fire that was tearing up behind them, they looked back and watched as the horses exploded - they didnt catch on fire - the heat was that intense that they self combusted and exploded...

About 5 trucks of firefighters were deployed to Marysvale, a town near King Lake, with the news the fires were approaching. they got to the town and saw the wall of fire coming straight for them - half the town was already gone. All they could do is spin the trucks around and drive for their lives... Problem was that here were people RUNNING along behind them (not driving - RUNNING on foot). They couldnt stop, they couldnt help them, they couldnt do anything because the fires were coming so quickly... they were in the truck fleeing for their lives watching people dying behind them like it was in some horror movie or like they were living Hiroshima all over again!

So many lvies have been ruined other than the ones who have lost their lives, houses and friends/family - its havinga snowball effect that really isn't going to help this whole economic crisis.

And just to think - some sick fuck has gone around lighting these fires deliberately - AND they have had reports and video footage of them doing it like 2 days ago - after over 200 lives have been lost (they still have not counted Marysvale's dead) and all the devistation - these fucking psycho's are still lighting more!!!
You can make a donation here to the new zeland red cross to help those victims of the forest fires.

Offically a mac geek

I just bought a brand new Mac Pro at work for me today.

I am doing a ton of video editing in HD so it was definitely needed. My single core amd 3200 was choking.

The mac pro is a beast! I can't wait to get all my files moved over and everything configured!

I may have just peed a bit.
Just a little...

A United front

Things have been crazy busy with Greg moving in. We spent the weekend unpacking boxes and shopping for some furniture (of which we got nothing). We still need to figure out a way to store all of our dvds out of sight and figure out a desk setup for him. Its great having him here I am finding it a bit of an adjustment from living alone. It is indeed a good adjustment however.

It will be interesting to see how the dynamic evolves between the two of us as we settle in.

I have been talking a lot these days about how gays should be using web 2.0 tools to mobilize educate and unite and repair the geographic and temporal chasms that exists between our scattered community.

Joe.My.God's repost on Saturday of one of his classic posts is a perfect example of how we can use the net to share stories and educate the younger generations about what being gay has been about. I am often reminded by reading items like this that I know so very little about the tragedies and strength both in private and in public that have brought us to this point.

Is it possible that adobe flash game can have gaydar

I was playing with this Hero Factory flash game yesterday. It was kind of fun but i wish there were more options.

Here are the results
I love how it called me The Fancy masked avenger. Like somehow it knew i was a big ole mo.
LOves it!

Installing windows 7 beta

This will be my second experience installing windows 7 beta. My first run on my old decommissioned desktop at home was less impressive than the guys at gizmodo would lead you to believe.

I am giving it a second shot because i need to test my companies software out on it. I am installing on sun's virtualbox.

12:38 disk is in. I chose custom install.

12:42 It is a two step process apparently
  1. Takes about 35 seconds
12:57 First restart step 2 takes about 15 min (this is what pissed me off the first time) why not add more steps to make it representative of the time they will be spending setting up.

1:06 Restart number 2 not a big fan of the starting windows screen with the dancing coloured orbs
1:07 Checking video performance (i kinda love the progress bar on the bottom)
1:08 User setup
1:08 Key entering. The little blue ring is almost as anoying as the swirling beach ball.
1:11 Network setup. I thought they were supposed to have made this easier? Homegroups were supposed to be a big selling point but as of right now it seems like a big pain in my ass. Now there is fucking randomly generated password that decides group access. So if someone comes over with a laptop to your place not only will they need a wireless access key but they will need your homegroup key? This is silly. I went with the business network option.

1:13 Preparing my desktop
1:16 Hello fishy
1:18 Desktop and personal settings are good to go and it looks like im setup.

This was overall much smoother and seems to work well on the virtual machine. The instalation process was so much better than vista. But at this point in the game is being better than vista enough?

After installing windows 7 on my machine at home I had tons of driver issues and no wireless even though i was using a common linksys wireless card. Funny thing is that was the same problem I had with vista. At this point I am begining to suspect that this is a lighter version of the same garbage microsoft has been shipping for years now. Only with an updated user interface and new branding. Networking seems to have all the same old problems as vista did. If you had driver problems with vista you likely still will.

What worries me the most is that this is the Ultimate version of the software the more limited versions may be even worse than this. Yes it is better than vista. But really when it comes to user friendlieness i think microsoft needs to look at more than just stealing apple's user interface systems and attempt to have things like networking and hardware installation "just work" like my macbook.

Ten things I no longer hate about me

Change is coming.

I have decided a few things.
1. I am going to be Ok with people not liking me.
2. I am not going to run myself into the ground trying to please everyone.
3. I am going to get rid of the insecurities that I have held on to for so long. Related to that is I am done with drinking for a long while. I am interesting enough on my own without the shield of booze around me.
4. I am going to work out more (at least twice a week) from now on.
5. I am going to draw something once a week.
6. I am going to cut back on my online life and focus on the people and things that matter.
7. I am going to blog more.
8. I am going to get myself healthy ad get rid of this ulcer for good.
9. I need to work on realizing that all my actions including this one have significant effects on others and I need to think about those effects before acting.
10. I am going to get my Tattoo that I have been drawing and thinking about for 15 years now.

There they are it took me a while to get some resolutions down but i figure now is the time to implement these changes.
